About the company:
AMBICO, a 70-year-old manufacturer of specialty steel doors, wood doors with steel cores, and steel frames, is a leader in providing solutions that prioritize safety, security, and performance. Its door assemblies are integral to protecting people, property, and information across high-security installations such as government buildings, embassies, public safety facilities, military sites, and critical infrastructure like data centers and energy facilities.
Describe the project.:
The primary objective of this research is to identify and evaluate alternative materials to replace lead in specialty door assemblies. Specifically, the research should focus on the following:
1. Material Properties: Identify materials with equivalent or superior properties to lead for acoustic absorption. Evaluate the durability, strength, and flexibility of alternative materials to ensure compatibility with steel core door construction.
2. Safety and Sustainability: Prioritize materials that are safer to handle, non-toxic, and environmentally sustainable. Assess recyclability and environmental impact of the proposed alternatives.
3. Weight Reduction: Explore options that enable the development of a lighter core for steel door assemblies without compromising performance.
4. Cost Effectiveness: Assess the economic feasibility of integrating the material into manufacturing processes, including raw material cost, processing, and tooling requirements.
5. Adaptability: Ensure the material can be integrated seamlessly into existing manufacturing processes and meet regulatory and performance standards.
Required expertise/skills:
Knowledge in Materials Science.
