About the company:
County Stage Company is a professional not-for-profit theatre organization based in Prince Edward County, Ontario. Since 2006, the company has produced a diverse summer repertory season including contemporary plays, musicals, comedy, and new play development, presented in collaboration with key regional venues. County Stage plays a vital role in the region’s cultural tourism economy, drawing audiences from across the County as well as visitors from Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and beyond.
Under new artistic and management leadership, the company is expanding its programming, strengthening community engagement, and building year-round artistic activity. As County Stage grows, the organization is working to deepen its connection with local residents while also becoming a premier cultural destination for visitors. Strengthening marketing strategy and audience development is essential to this next phase of growth, and this internship will directly support County Stage’s long-term sustainability, brand visibility, and regional economic impact.
Describe the project.:
County Stage Company is expanding its annual repertory season and preparing for increased year-round programming. To support this growth, the company seeks an intern to assist in developing production management systems, technical planning frameworks, and operational processes that strengthen County Stage’s ability to deliver high-quality productions efficiently and safely. This internship focuses on strategic production planning, technical operations research, and organizational systems development, rather than day-to-day technical tasks.
The intern will work with the Artistic Director, Managing Director, and senior technical personnel to review current production workflows, assess technical requirements across multiple venues, and develop planning tools that support scheduling, budgeting, staffing, and technical coordination. They will research production models used by repertory theatres, multi-venue presenters, and small-to-mid-size regional companies to identify best practices in technical theatre operations, safety processes, and efficient production workflows.
Key tasks include mapping current production processes, evaluating technical needs for the summer repertory season, developing timelines and staffing frameworks, researching equipment and infrastructure needs, and supporting long-term planning for growth in production capacity. The intern will also help draft technical specifications, venue comparison charts, and organizational templates that improve communication and efficiency across artistic, technical, and administrative teams.
Methodologies include workflow analysis, environmental scans, benchmarking, technical theatre research, and application of production management frameworks used in professional theatre environments. Deliverables will include production planning templates, technical process maps, venue technical summaries, staffing frameworks, and recommendations for long-term production infrastructure.
This project will strengthen County Stage’s production capacity, support safer and more efficient technical operations, and create strategic tools that ensure sustainable long-term growth in programming and production complexity.
