Describe the project.:
Photon-IV is a Canadian technology company specializing in intelligent connectivity between Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) and Terrestrial Networks (TN) for defense, aerospace, and advanced communications. Leveraging expertise in wireless engineering and AI/ML, Photon-IV is committed to pioneering cutting-edge solutions to enhance global connectivity.
This is a full-time hybrid role for a 5G Software systems Engineer -Co-op. The selected candidate will work on developing and optimizing wireless systems to enable seamless communication between terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks. Responsibilities include network troubleshooting, analyzing wireless technologies, designing advanced network architecture, and implementing innovative ML-driven solutions to improve connectivity and performance. Collaboration with a cross-disciplinary team to solve complex challenges will be an integral part of the role.
Required expertise/skills:
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Wireless Networking and Networking principles, with a strong foundation in network protocols and infrastructure.
- Skilled in Wireless Technologies, Network Design, and optimizing wireless communication frameworks.
- Experience in Troubleshooting complex network issues and implementing solutions to ensure seamless communication.
- Experience with AI/ML applications in wireless communications is required
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on innovative and scalable solutions.
- Currently pursuing or holding advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields with relevant expertise.
- Experience with Pytorch/Tensorflow and time-series forecasting for wireless systems
- Familiarity with wireless simulation tools
- Coursework or projects in satellite communications, MIMO or propagation modeling
- Strong Python skills and containerization (Docker)
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with a collaborative mindset for working on
Key Responsibilities
- Implement ML models for link degradation forecasting using ns-3 simulation data and real propagation datasets
- Deployment of software for testbed analysis
- Familiarity with Keysight NTN equipment is an asset
- Optimize handover prediction algorithms for edge deployment (sub-50ms latency)
- Integrate physics-informed models with 3GPP NTN standards and ORAN interfaces
- Validate performance against CAF SATCOM requirements (Arctic/maritime scenarios)
- Contribute to IDEaS proposal technical deliverables
