About the company:
Deciduous is focused on designing programming and spacing that helps young adults who have aged out of foster care gain the education and skills they need to gain independence. This project is created to learn about different minority communities and have them, along with anyone willing, engage in creating a community where they could visit and be part of something larger than themselves. This project is housed by Deciduous Corp., a start-up creating real estate, property management, and community investment federal corporations. This project wants to serve marginalized people who are unhoused first through online education and then support. A physical space to help people gain the hand-up they need through housing and education is being developed.
Describe the project.:
Deciduous Corp. is collaborating with PMAST to design and implement a program to help homeless youths in Calgary develop the business, vocational, and life skills necessary to create and pursue their own careers. This program is based on the Social Enterprise Intervention (SEI) model created by Dr. Kristin Ferguson, an academic social worker who conducted a pilot project in Los Angeles in 2005-06, the success of which was demonstrated in several qualitative and quantitative studies published in peer-reviewed journals.
