Au sujet de l’entreprise:

The RMOW is the local government organization for the resort community of Whistler. The infrastructure Services department is responsible for maintaining infrastructure important to the success of the community; water, sewer, roads, drainage, flood protection, public facilities.

Veuillez décrire le projet.:

The infrastructure services department is looking to confirm the storm water collection system asset inventory and condition by utilizing technology to collect attributes on each asset that can be presented in both the municipal Geographic Information System (GIS) and in a future asset management system to ensure the infrastucture meets the future needs of the community.

Record drawings have historically been used to record assets assumed by the RMOW. This project will update information collected over the years from record information and will ensure the asset inventory is complete. As an additional step condition assetssments will be completed on each asset to allow for robust planning of infrastructure capital replacement.

The main tasks of the candidate will be to travel around the community using a data collection surveying device and collect predetermined attributes on each asset that can be used for future information reference and capital replacement planning. A computer interface device will be provided to the candidate for them to collect information on the asset. The device will be configured to automatically upload information to a centralized database for processing.

Once the data is collected a GIS map layer will be created to present the identified assets with associated attributes that the research student could then identify and highlight areas where the asset was showing low, medium or high degrees of corrosion. The research student will then assist other staff in determining whether the was due to asset age, velocity of water passing through the asset during a storm event or due to the probability of the asset being installed within an identified hot soil area of the community. This work will assist with planning and the eventual capital replacement of the identified asset and the determination of a change in asset material type.

Expertise ou compétences exigées:

The candidate should be comfortable in using handheld technology and have the basic understanding of civil engineering specific to stormwater collection systems and design best practices. Knowledge of GIS Mapping software.
